College Student Brutally Stabbed 12 Times in Mangalore

MANGALORE:

On June 28, a 20-year old female college student was severely injured by a 20-year old man who stabbed her 12 times in Bagambila, near Deralakatte, on Nitte Beeri Campus in what was presumed to be fueled by the girl’s refusal to his proposal. Shortly after stabbing the girl, the man attempted suicide by slitting his throat with a knife before an ambulance was called to take the wounded victim and accused away.

The girl was returning from college late afternoon this Friday when the man arrived on a bike and started to attack her. Students of the university and even locals were recording the attack, and video clips are doing the rounds. The videos show the accused violently attacking the girl, while people close by shout at him, asking to stop. The attacker also threatened to do worse if anyone intervened. The accused was identified as Sushant and the victim was identified as Deeksha, a first-year MBA student at Nitte College, Karkala.

Locals say that the Sushant and Deeksha were in a relationship before some family problems got in the way. The girl later started ignoring Sushant which must have driven him to ultimately stab her.

The Police Sub Inspector (PSI) and the Ullal Police Station confirmed that both the attacker and victim are admitted at KS Hegde Medical College. Their conditions are critical, especially the victim. Both of them are in the ICU and their treatment has begun. Doctors say that the girl must be put on a 72-hour observation even though she was responding to treatment.
